Insurance Company Appeals

You should be cautious when a disability insurance company advises you to appeal their decision, they may be giving you advice that will ruin your chances in Court. Many of these companies are based in other parts of the country. For example, Maritime Life, which has just been taken over by Manulife is based in Nova Scotia. Manulife has a head office in Ontario, and RBC Insurance is based in Ontario. Canada Life has just been merged with Great West Life out of Manitoba. Great West Life is based in Manitoba, and The Co-operators is in Manitoba too. Sun Life has a head office in Ontario. Recently Unum Provident was taken over by RBC Insurance, a division of the Royal Bank of Canada.

The way the company operates is based on their home province. The law in Nova Scotia may allow Maritime life to do things differently than a B.C. company would be allowed to. The laws in these other provinces are different from British Columbia law. When a disability insurance claim is made by you, the employees of these companies may not realize that you have only ONE YEAR to sue in B.C. and may advise you to "Appeal" their decision. If you miss the one year limit period, you are out of Court, and out of luck.

When you need a lawyer to pursue a disability insurance claim, you need a law firm that understands the way these national companies operate. Pierce Law Group is handling claims for our clients against every major disability insurance company in Canada, and we know how they operate. We have claims pending against: Sun Life, Great West Life, Unum Provident, RBC Insurance, Maritime Life, Manulife, Canada Life, B.C. Life and Casualty , Blue Cross, and The Co-operators.
