Pierce Law Group traces its roots to 1984 as Pierce Van Loon, a full service law firm located in downtown Vancouver and founded by Lawrence Pierce, now retired. The firm rose to national prominence by obtaining the first damages award in Canada for mental distress (or “aggravated damages”) caused by wrongful denial of insurance benefits. We operate as an association of law corporations and sole practitioners and our work has been featured in the news and publications throughout Canada.
Due to the focused nature of our practice, we only take on Supreme Court claims involving injury, disability, employment, insurance and commercial matters. We also advise and represent clients on matters relating to CPP, WCAT, and Human Rights that arise within these contexts. We believe that a claimant’s financial situation should not limit their access to justice so we work with our clients to finance their litigation and our fees are based on contingency.
